Mystical Faroes
Join us on an unforgettable 8-day summer photography adventure to the enchanting Faroe Islands, a remote archipelago nestled in the North Atlantic between Iceland and Norway. This captivating destination offers a wealth of natural beauty, with its dramatic landscapes of volcanic islands, towering mountain peaks, lush valleys, and waterfalls that cascade directly from cliffs into the churning ocean below. It's a photographer’s dream.
During the summer months, the long hours of daylight are bathed in the ethereal glow of the Midnight Sun, allowing us to explore and capture the landscape well into the late evening. We’ll spend our days wandering through scenic fjords, carefully approaching puffins, hiking along panoramic ridges, chasing waterfalls, and immersing ourselves in the island’s magical atmosphere.
This workshop is designed for photographers of all levels. Your expert guide will be with you every step of the way, offering personalized advice and sharing their extensive knowledge of landscape and nature photography. They’ll ensure you're at the best locations, at the best times, and will help you make the most of the exceptional summer light. With the dynamic Faroese weather, expect to return home with an incredible range of dramatic, moody, and atmospheric shots.
Whether you're looking to refine your photography skills or simply want to capture one of the most awe-inspiring regions on earth, this is the perfect opportunity to improve your craft in an extraordinary setting.
Day 1: Arrival and Orientation
Our itineraries are designed to be flexible and will adjust based on weather and conditions to ensure we make the most of our time in the Faroe Islands. Upon arrival, we will check into our hotel and gather for a group meeting. During this session, we'll review the itinerary and prepare for the adventure ahead. Photographers arriving early are welcome to settle in before the official start of the workshop. Airport pick-up and meeting times will be coordinated based on participants' arrival schedules.
Day 2–4: Exploring Vágar and Surrounding Islands
After a hearty breakfast, we set off to explore the stunning landscapes of Vágar and the nearby islands. Our first stop will be the picturesque Gásadalur village, perched on the edge of Mykinesfjørður, surrounded by towering mountains that offer breathtaking panoramic views toward the island of Mykines. Here, we’ll photograph the iconic Múlafossur waterfall, which cascades dramatically into the ocean.
Next, we’ll visit Lake Sørvágsvatn, often called the "optical illusion lake." From a distance, it appears to hang off the cliffside, creating a mesmerizing visual effect. It’s the largest lake in the Faroe Islands and feeds into the sea below through the Bøsdalafoss waterfall.
We'll also explore the charming village of Bøur, known for its traditional Faroese architecture and the stunning view of the Tindhólmur islets, one of the most photographed spots in the archipelago. If weather conditions allow, we will also venture to the remote island of Mykines, accessible from Vágar Island, to capture its unique beauty.
Day 5–7: Discovering Streymoy and Beyond
After three days on Vágar, we’ll move to our next accommodation in the village of Gjógv on the island of Eysturoy. Over the next three days, we’ll explore the surrounding islands, including the capital city of Tórshavn. Tórshavn boasts a picturesque old town and harbor, where the Norse established their parliament on the Tinganes peninsula in 850 AD. This makes Tórshavn's parliament one of the oldest continuously functioning in the world.
We will also visit Kirkjubøur, the southernmost village on the island of Streymoy, which is home to some of the Faroe Islands' most significant historical sites. These include the ruins of the 14th-century Magnus Cathedral, the 12th-century Saint Olav’s Church, and the Kirkjubøargarður farmhouse, dating back to the 11th century. Not far from here, a Viking-era runestone known as the Kirkjubøur stone was discovered in 1832.
Finally, we’ll explore Saksun, a village nestled along the northwest coast, renowned for its picturesque beauty. Saksun is home to a unique church and museum. The church, originally built in Tjørnuvík, was disassembled in 1858, transported over the mountains, and reassembled in Saksun. The museum is housed in a 17th-century farmhouse called Dúvugarður, offering a glimpse into Faroese history and culture.
Day 8: Departure
The workshop officially concludes at 12:00 on the final day. Please plan your flights accordingly to ensure ample time for departure. If you wish to extend your journey and explore Iceland either before or after the Faroe Islands workshop, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We’d be happy to assist with your travel plans.
